Surprisingly disappointed !
"Faefever" isn't as dynamic and interesting as its predecessors and the ending is awful...
"There’s a sparkle in my eyes and a spring in my step. I’m wearing a killer pink dress with my favorite heels, and I’m accessorized to the hilt, in gold and rose amethyst. I’ve taken extra care with my hair and makeup. I’m on my way to meet Christian MacKeltar, a sexy, mysterious young Scotsman who knew my sister. I feel good for a change."
I don't want to spoil anything or kill the fun and I know that some people are thrilled by this book, but not me. MacKayla didn't change one bit. The same pink princess who wants everyone to run to her rescue. And to always be there when she needs them. On top of that there is that awful hideous killjoy ending that I would like to scrap from my memory as soon as possible.
From the beginning I suppose. Mac is working at the bookstore. She is full of questions and would give anything for answers. She doesn't train, not one single time. She is very scared of the shadows so she keeps obsessing about the lights. The police inspector that keeps on following her gives her a good idea about how to locate the Dark Book. She feeds him some rhino boy meat and tells him everything about the Seelie and Unseelie. Forcefully she made him a part of her world. She also made him promise to call her as soon some major crime is in progress so she can trace the Book. She doesn't tell any of this to Jericho. Because she is a major jackpetunia (reference in the first book, petunia = ass). Also, the blondy (yes, she still misses her hair) jackpetunia keeps on going on trips with V'lane, because she is stupid, of course. Beaches, massages, you-name-it. She doesn't see anything wrong with it. And when Jericho goes full ballistic on her she still doesn't get it. At all.
“You stand there all tan and glowing and wonder why I use Voice on you?” he bellowed. “Where the hell do you get off? You’ve been with V’lane again. How many slaps in the face do you think I’m going to take, Ms. Lane?” He grabbed my fist and held it when I tried to punch him again. I swung at him with the other. He caught that, too."
Jericho is still full of secrets and mysteries and she still doesn't know where he lives or what he is. None of us do. But isn't that just maybe because she is such a spoiled selfish girl? (yes girl, not a woman in the least). She likes him and denies to acknowledge that. Just as she denied for the half of the first book that she can't really see Fae. Repetition. He made a couple of moves which she just needed to finish. And she didn't. If she did, maybe he would see her as an adult and not a spoiled brat. Maybe if she didn't broke his Viper and not to mention his Ferrari at the end, if she trusted him more, if she didn't demand clothes on his tab as well as the top security system and some other little things he would see her different. Now I'm repeating myself. Meh...
It's so obvious from the beginning of the Series that Jericho likes her but restrains himself for some (I'm certain it's valid) reason. He has a dark past and some secrets that act as a deterrent. She just sees him as a mercenary maniac with great intelligence and murderous intent. Then why are you even staying with him, little girl???
Anyway, they play this game all the time. Just as he is about to tell her something or do something she starts with the it's-all-about-me, the-world-is-conspiring-against-me, you-are-a-mercenary, I-will-never-trust-you behavior. And then she has the audacity to look bewildered at how he never ever answers her questions. My goodness. It's getting a bit too much for me.
***SPOILER***
The ending of the book. The little miss blondy refused to go to Scotland with Jericho even though he pleaded several times. She wanted to go to the abbey (idiot) where no one really wanted her except Dani. And what do you know. Shit happened. Walls collapsed. City went full dark. She was stuck in the city, in some church. She survived the night. But in the morning she was RAPED. BY THREE MEN (SHE SAYS FOUR), THE HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE / THE DARK UNSEELIE PRINCES. YEP, ALL AT ONCE. YES, IN THE CHURCH. And it went on and on and on.... After they were done and left her Pri-ya and Dani managed to snatch her away, she blamed Jericho and V'lane. Because Jericho - WHERE WERE YOU, WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE ME, YOU SHOULD HAVE HELPED ME CRAP! And for V'lane, I wouldn't have been so brave if I hadn't had your name on my tongue to call you as I bloody please. The stupid damsel in distress again.
It actually makes me sick to my stomach. Not just the gang bang rape but her idiocy and her selfishness and her I am the center of the world behavior. And it's not my fault it all happened. YES IT IS. IT IS LITERALLY ALL YOUR FAULT. ALL OF IT. THE END.
